Ms Unohu Gets Portrayed
Who would not like to see their painted portrait on the wall? Our Miss loved the idea, because, above all, she loved looking at herself!
But how did she inspire the famous painters? And where did her self-admiration lead her?
Come, let's follow her journey and see what ended up on the walls!
Why is her story relevant?
Many kids today are facing body image issues due to peer and social media pressure to look perfect, shaping how children value themselves. Self-esteem and self-worth are getting more and more attached to appearance, and the number of young people needing mental health support has risen in recent years (narcissism, eating disorders, self-harm due to bullying).
These issues limit a child’s aspirations in school, who can also be encouraged to draw their self-worth from places beyond their looks (e.g. engaging with more positive role models, hobbies, and guidance.)
Topics to discuss based on the story with children:
-
What is beauty? To what extent and in which ways are looks important? Do they help build bridges or build walls with friends? Does attention equal success?
-
To what extent it is healthy to be occupied with your look?
-
If someone presents you with a distorted image of yourself, should you accept it as fact? What should you accept, and what to discard?
-
What values do you have apart from the looks that will help you through life?
